What is "Blotter Art" ?

This is an artform rooted in psychedelics and the counter-culture. 

LSD and other psychedelic chemicals were first put onto paper as a way to avoid federal sentencing guidelines. Mandatory minimum sentences were based on the weight of the medium used.

A single sugar cube with one drop of liquid could get you a long jail term, so paper became an obvious choice. 

In the early 1990’s some people saw the interest in collecting blotter sheets as an artform to be hung on the wall. Blotter sheet prints started to be produced for the sole purpose of collecting, like you might do with baseball cards.
